Hello 2008, Nice to Meet You

Late Christmas morning, after the rush of opening presents and devouring of cinnamon rolls, I helped Zoe put together a few of her gifts. One in particular was perfect for that afternoon's long drive out to see Papa Tony's side of the family. A very pink Barbie laptop computer. Only it's computer type components are limited to a few games and learning exercises. After getting the batteries installed, and the screen opened, the first thing Zoe asked was, "OK Mommy, now how do I make it blog?"
Nathan thought this was hilarious.

Christmas was good though, and everyone had a great time with family. The week following I had off from work and had Morgan stay with us during her winter break. We had lots of fun, but that week sure flew by. New Year's Eve we stayed up till 3am playing RockBand on PS3. As grown-ups (really?), it's silly how addicted Mary, Cam, Nathan and I are to this game. We bought it for the kids for Christmas but have played it almost daily with out them. Oops.

On January 3rd, my Dad had gastric bypass surgery in Seattle. The day after his surgery he was talking with a friend of his who had the same surgery two years ago, and they were listing all the things that my Dad was soon going to be able to do that he wasn't able before. As my Dad, it's very easy for me to see past the weight and know who he really is. In fact, first thoughts of my Dad are of his intelligence and his faith, not his weight. So hearing him talk openly about his struggles was a real eye opener for me. I hate that people have judged him for his weight. It breaks my heart.
He is recovering from the surgery now at home, and it hasn't been easy, but he is persevering. And so is my mom, because you know, sometimes the water isn't cold enough, or the ice-chips melted enough and I'm sure her head is going to explode any day now.

So that is were I've been lately. The girls are back in school now, and I am back at work. There should be some good stories right around the corner. I promise!
